From time to time it is recommended to change the climate in your flat or house. And why not to try with rattan furniture this time?
In the past – wicker was more popular than rattan. Some people still tend to believe that it is almost the same. But unfortunately it is not… 😉 The main difference is that rattan is the name for the roughly 600 species of palms. It has the shape of a pole and is one of the strongest woods.
And wicker is traditionally made of material of plant origin, but nowadays – also of plastic fibers. Wicker is light yet durable, and that’s why it is a great material for furniture that will be moved often – like garden furniture. But let’s focus on the rattan.
1. Rattan furniture – easy available
Rattan furniture are still more and more popular. That’s why, you can buy rattan furniture in almost every shop, market, hipermarket with furniture and garden equipment. And depending on what are you looking for – you can buy armchairs, rocking chairs, tables, benches and many more. And you can choose from the wide range of colours – from white, blue, green, many shades of brown and black. And we would almost say – as many colours – so wide scale of prizes for the rattan furniture. And as you can guess – natural rattan can be much more expansive than its synthetic version.
2. Rattan – universal material
Probably there are many rattan lovers among the readers of this article. And you could easily place any rattan furniture in your place, in any room 😉 But you have to bear in mind that rattan seems to be ideal material also for those, who doesn’t have clearly defined expectations about the style of the room that they would like to arrange. It suits to metal, rock and also to the glass. You can combine it with any material and in this way – it will gain another dimension.
3. Special needs
Whether you choose to have your rattan indoors or out, there are a few tips how to keep it clean and in good condition.
To clean your furniture, you will need mild detergent, water and soft clothes. To clean all the gaps and difficult to reach places – you can use an old toothbrush. Remember that rattan shouldn’t be soaked in the water for a longer period. Better wipe it with damp clothes or towels. And if it is possible – use only the bubbly mixture from the detergent with water. Using foam is the most gentle way to clean the furniture.
When the stains are difficult to remove with the foam, apply detergent directly on the stain and scrub with slightly more water. After cleaning – dry the rattan with a soft clothes or towels. To speed up the process, you can use hair dryer or set it out directly in the sun. and once per year, after general cleaning of the rattan, apply on it a coat of lacquer with a paintbrush (or in spray) to provide better protection.
4. And what about synthetic rattan – is it perfect substitute?
For sure synthetic rattan can be great alternative for all those who’d like to have stylish and modern, good looking furniture in their garden. Synthetic rattan is light and strong – like natural rattan (or even stronger), but has also other advantages.
We could say that it comes in almost every colour that you can only imagine. But this is not the end! It comes also in wide range of designs and versatility. It is pretty certain that it will create extraordinary climate – even if you think that nothing can change casual style of your patio or garden. And it is also cheaper than natural rattan and easy to maintain – what can be great advantage when you have a big family or even when you are garden party lover – and your furniture will be exposed to various attractions 😉
